Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has operated the tram for the past 19 years. TPWD suspended tram operations after an engineering analysis. Despite passing annual inspections, the analysis concluded that the tram had exceeded its life expectancy and was no longer suited for public use. The natural flyway that is the El Paso area brings a large variety of bird species to the area. Local groups are taking advantage of this natural flyway by rehabilitating the remains of local bosques wetlands , adding to the available bird habitat in the area.
